by minimus ini really think that he is.
not that it's a bad thing...

I think he's an Apathy-ist. He probably doesn't care one way or the other if there is a God or not. -

Hint: It's not a Disney movie. Nor is it widely considered to be a fantasy film (even though it is).

Asshole Atheism – Not for me, now or ever.
by donny into start off with let me clarify that by asshole atheism i am not referring to strong atheism or any other type of upfront atheism.
what i am referring to is the belligerent, hateful atheism that smacks of trolls and other types who want to derail conversation or comments at any cost..
i enjoy hearing comments from both sides of the subjects of theism, nationalism or politics, especially from those who have intense opinions.

I would like to second Simmon's motion. Freedom of speech is NOT freedom from criticism. I don't go door to door telling people their God isn't real or stand out on the street corner with a bull horn telling them they believe in fairy tales (even though religious people do engage in this sort of behavior). However, if someone wants to make statements of faith on a public forum - it's free game for me to speak my opinions about the nature of their beliefs. -

Are we pro-shunning or against it?
by Simon injust to continue my theme about religious freedom and how we approach criticizing the wts, i've also been thinking about 'shunning'.. i think shunning is the most unifying complaint that most ex-members of religious groups that practice it have in common.
it is the layer that runs under every other complaint - whatever the reason for leaving it seems "... and i was shunned" can be added to it as the final rap on the charge sheet.. of course it seems like a no-brainer to many of us and we hardly ever stop to really think about it - shunning is bad, the watchtower believes in shunning therefore the watchtower is bad.
they need to stop it.

There's a huge difference between one individual choosing not to associate with another individual vs. a whole group of people being forced not to associate with that individual.
There's a huge difference between not hanging out with someone because you don't want to vs. not hanging out with someone because you're afraid of being shunned too.
There's a huge difference between being genuinely offended by a persons actions committed against you or your family and choosing not to speak to that person vs. not knowing a person's motives or actions and being told to shun them anyway.
There's a difference between avoiding someone out of legitimate safety concerns vs. blackballing someone for imagined or arbitrary crimes.
Shunning by itself isn't "good" or "bad". It's the motives behind the action and how that action affects well-being/unnecessary-harm that determines if shunning is good or bad.

Our Governing Body, who art in Brooklyn,
Upon whom our dollar bills do rain.
May your will be done.
And new light come.
From broadcasts that are wooden.
Give us our bi-monthly mags.
And forgive us for trespassing,
Into our neighbors yards.
May they be busy,
Or better yet - not at all home.
So that we can get to Starbucks,
But keep counting time.
Forever and ever.
Your company Men

If you can go to an hour and a half meeting - and then five minutes later not be able to remember a single thing about that meeting - you might be a JW.
If you think "meeting attendance" is a synonym for "spirituality" - you might be a JW.
If you've ever been annoyed by someone taking longer than 5 seconds to find a scripture in the Bible - you might be a JW.
If you have no money saved at all and your retirement plan is to steal your rich neighbors house and have pet lions - you might be a JW.

Serve Jehovah get everlasting life don't serve get everlasting death
by Brokeback Watchtower injehovah's personality is explosive with no guarantees he won't blow a head gasket and destroy your ass for some petty offense.. i know the jws claim jehovah always keeps his word and once you get to heaven or pass the final test you got guaranteed everlasting life.
but when we look in the bible jehovah seems to kill even his worshipers over trifles, so who is to say that someday he won't get pissed off and destroy the whole human race and start all over again?.
while i don't believe the bible or what the wt corporation teaches about jehovah personality, if what they say is true then i would much rather die than live an eternity under the whims of such a capricious jehovah.. the reward system the bible has promoted is really terrible and not to be grasped at..

"Now Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took their respective firepans, and after putting fire in them, placed incense on it and offered strange fire before the LORD, which He had not commanded them. 2And fire came out from the presence of the LORD and consumed them, and they died before the LORD." Leviticus 10: 1-2
Nothing like burning people to death for trying to worship him. Sounds like a real nice guy.

When did you realize evolution was true?
by Coded Logic in) which person/source first made you reconsider your position on creationism?.

Sadly there are plenty who are still too lazy/biased/afraid to study the evidence.
But if evolution were true it would be a Scientific Theory not a . . . err wait . . . hold on a second here. . .
